Hong Kong-based investment firm Chartwell Capital and Singapore onshore strategic partner Tembusu Partners have launched a new investment vehicle structured as a Singapore Variable Capital Company ( VCC ).
The VCC is a feeder fund that will invest into the Hong Kong-domiciled Chartwell Asia Pacific Income Fund, which focuses on Asian listed companies with high cash flow yields and that are often majority-owned by the founding families.
At launch, the fund has garnered the backing of several Singaporean families and institutions and aims to welcome more in the coming months. They, Chartwell points out, will co-invest alongside the company’s existing network of over 50 Hong Kong-based families and institutions via the Chartwell fund.
Through the investments, Chartwell aims to support Asian family-backed listed companies, “create real value for investors, empower family-run businesses in the region and contribute to the development of Asian societies”.
Ronald Chan, company’s founder and chief investment officer, adds: “Throughout the recent market volatility, we have stayed true to our focus on protecting capital, redeploying cash into quality names, and keeping an eye on long-term growth opportunities. We remain confident that our focus on family-backed listed companies will deliver both income and stability for our investors.”
